NEW YORK, NY – Southern Guild is set to make its third consecutive appearance at The Armory Show, presenting a powerful new body of work at Booth 117 of the Javits Center. The presentation, on view during the VIP Preview on September 4 and to the public from September 5–7, will feature new paintings, sculpture, and photography from a roster of seminal artists from South Africa, Morocco, Benin, and Nigeria.
The gallery's curatorial approach at this year's show reinforces its commitment to amplifying African voices that are reshaping the global contemporary art conversation. The presentation features a multigenerational selection of artists whose practices are united by their exploration of identity, history, and material innovation.

Among the featured artists is the internationally acclaimed photographer Zanele Muholi, whose work confronts issues of gender and race with unflinching honesty and deep empathy. Muholi's presence anchors a powerful dialogue with a new generation of artists, including sculptors Madoda Fani and Manyaku Mashilo, whose unique approaches to traditional materials push the boundaries of form and narrative.
The booth will also highlight the dynamic practices of artists like Kamyar Bineshtarigh, Amine El Gotaibi, and Roméo Mivekannin. Mivekannin, from Benin, is known for his striking works that engage with colonial history and questions of restitution, offering a critical lens on West African heritage. These artists, alongside Terence Maluleke, Mmangaliso Nzuza, and Zizipho Poswa, represent a diverse cross-section of artistic inquiry from the continent.
By bringing these distinct voices to a major international platform like The Armory Show, Southern Guild not only showcases the vitality of contemporary African art but also actively participates in the global conversation, demonstrating how these artists' practices challenge conventional boundaries and contribute meaningfully to the discourse of today.
