Nigerian fashion photographer Amanda Akokhia has been awarded the winner of the 2024 Fashion Photographer category at The British Photography Awards, after three of her photographs were nominated in the fashion and fine art categories.
The UK-based photographer and founder of Green Studios was praised for her stunning work, exceptional talent, and creativity. Akokhia is a self-taught photographer with over a decade of experience. Her work, which focuses on portraiture, spans fashion editorials, beauty shoots, and brand campaigns.
"I still can't fully grasp this moment, but I am beyond honored and incredibly grateful to be recognized with this prestigious award. If you had told me just eight years ago that I'd be standing here, I wouldn't have believed you. Back then, I was fresh out of law school with a future in law ahead of me, and photography was just a distant dream," Akokhia expressed her gratitude on her Instagram handle.
She further urged artists who aspire to attain such recognition to keep pursuing their dreams: "To every artist out there: Believe in your art. It will take you to places you never imagined, open doors you didn't think were possible, and help you discover your true purpose. Your voice, your vision, and your creativity matter more than you know."
The British Photography Awards recognize and celebrate outstanding photography talent in the UK and beyond. Akokhia's win not only highlights her individual success but also paves the way for Nigerian photographers to strive for the top.
